How to Pack a Flat Screen TV for Moving?

People always talk about the most difficult things to pack while moving when the belongings are hefty and oversized for example things like sofas, pool table, a piano or a heavy furniture piece. But there’s one household appliance that is not something very heavy or bulky but something that is fragile enough to break if you end up being even a little careless. If you are hiring packers and movers then you don’t have to worry about anything but if you are executing the move on your own then you will have to take a decision.

Yes, moving a flat screen TV is not a very easy task to do and nor something that you can afford to get damaged. Even if there is a crack on the screen then it will cost you a lot of money.

Now you need to understand that there is nothing that you cannot do to move a TV on your own but you have to be more careful as compared to other things because the most difficult part while moving a fragile item is the transition period. While lifting and loading the TV you have to be more careful because it can either create some technical problems inside or physical damage from outsides so one needs to be very careful while doing that.

Here are some of the ways to pack a flat screen TV

If you want your TV as good as new then the way of protection while transporting a flat screen TV is using a sturdy box for it. Congratulations to you if you saved on to the box that your TV came in at the time of purchase, but if you didn’t, then you need not worry about it. But the original boxes are the best because they are made according to the size of the model. Anyways, you can buy a sturdy box for your TV, but make sure that the measurements are same as that of your TV so that you purchase the right size.

Here we go with some of the easy steps

Make sure you pack the cord and cables separately

Don’t forget that TV is supposed to be completely free of all cords and cables before you begin to pack it for it for the move. If you want to save some time for later then it would be better if you take a picture of the back of the TV before removing the wires and cables so that you have something to refer at the time of installing it in your new house. Then you can pack your TV and tie all the cords separately in a zip loc bag.

It should not have any screws or anything

If your TV is connected to a base or a mount then make sure you remove it properly along with the screws and nuts so that you don’t carry them with you.

Don’t forget to keep a bag with you that you can use to store such things to keep them handy. Don’t forget to label the bag properly so that you know how you have kept things and it helps you setting up your TV at your new home. Bear in mind that you use good quality of tape to secure the bag to the TV mount or base so that all of the parts are in one place.

Box it up

Maximum of the boxes for such TVs come in kits, there is a lot of protection to the box itself they also have foam pieces you can utilize to safe all the four corners of your TV and protect it from shifting around during transit. Make sure you put the pieces of foam as the first thing and then keep them in a place and give some extra element of protection.

Once your TV is protected in the packing paper, smooth put it inside the box. Make sure you don’t hurry up the process and put it in slowly so that it doesn’t drop on the bottom of the box. You will also have to fill the spaces which are empty after putting them

If you are not able to arrange for a box

If you are not able to arrange for a box then you should get your hands on moving blanket while it is not the most ideal option but the only way to provide sufficient padding during the transit. When you pack your TV with the help of moving blanket then you will also require some corner protectors. They are commonly available where the moving supplies are sold. Then secure the entire with the help of packing paper after providing it with sufficient padding.

You might have to use more than one wrapping paper to cover it well. Make sure you lay it flat on the back seat of your moving vehicle.

Most of the time, the reason that you’ll see that TVs are not kept on the side because it damages the plasma crystals during the haul and can create technical issue in the TV. You should always keep all such aspects in your mind and then set the plan. If you are executing the move on your own then make sure you ask some of your friends or family members to help you out with packing and loading work. You will feel the need of help while packing and loading such hefty belongings.

That being said, if keeping your TV won’t cause any internal damage to your flat screen TV, it could prove to be a recipe for external damage. These TVs are built in a way that it becomes very difficult for us to distribute the weight across the edges, and to manage the pressure on the screen. It becomes important for you to take such things seriously and if you are hiring packers and movers then you don’t have to worry about anything because they are well experienced to do such things with utmost safety.

Have a happy and safe move!
