5 Essential Tips for Packing Glasses When Moving

Are you ready to move to your new space? Have you decided what to pack and how to pack? If not, then this is the right time to start your packing if you are looking for a DIY move. Packing is a stressful deal for sure and when it comes to packing an individual item as per the type of material then it becomes a lot more hectic. It is obvious that you have a lot of glasses at your home that comes under the category of fragile items. These glasses require excellent packaging otherwise you might lose your costly stemware and glass items during the travel. It is obvious that you need to ensure that these items should reach your new place without getting damaged. For this, you either have to hire professional movers and packers in Chennai or pack them on your own using quality materials and keeping in mind a few things. So, learn about how to pack the fragile items properly.

Tips to pack your fragile items properly

1. Packing Boxes: Before starting to pack your fragile items, make sure that you make use of quality packing materials. Make use of a medium-sized box for storing your mugs and glassware. It is better to use a box with dividers as they make sure that the glass remains separated from each other and do not collide during travel. Avoid using large-size boxes for them as that will become too heavy and difficult to move. For packing glasses in these boxes, wrap them properly with packing paper and put them inside the box carefully. After this, pack the box and seal it with a durable packing tape. You need to pack the bottom and top of the box to secure it firmly. If you want to save some money on these boxes then ask the liquor shops for such boxes.

2. Packing Materials: You need to get the best quality packing materials for safely packing the glasses and stemware. The common materials include packing paper, bubble wrap, newspaper, old towels, packing tape, box dividers, etc. You need to wrap the item in these materials and secure them with packing tape so that they don’t move after putting them inside the box. If you do not have all these packing materials then you can simply use the old hand towels.

3. How to pack: Make sure to keep the glasses with the heavy items at the bottom and place all the light-weight items on the top. You are required to wrap each individual glass with packing paper or bubble wrap to protect them from collision during the move. If you want to add extra cushion then add packing material below and above the glasses inside the box. This is the right way of packing your fragile kitchenware so that they can be saved from getting into pieces.

4. How to prepare the box: You need to prepare your box too before putting the glasses inside them. Use packing paper or newspaper and crumble them before placing them inside the box. Cover the bottom entirely then place the wrapped glasses and then put crumbled paper on top. This will secure the glasses from both the sides by offering an additional cushion to them. If by any chance, the box gets hit then your inside items will remain secured due to this cushion.

5. Wrap the heavy glasses: Make sure to pack the heavy-weight and big glasses at first. Put these glasses at the bottom of the packing box and then stack up the lighter ones. For wrapping, you just have to lay the packing paper or towel on a clean surface and then roll it from one corner and then stuff the ends of the paper inside the glass. This way, it will be securely packed.

6. Wrap and stack the similar ones: Separate the same size of glasses, cups, and mugs together and pack them al together in a packing paper or bubble wrap. Make sure that the glasses or mugs are properly covered and there will be no area left that is uncovered. If that is a case then you should take another packing paper to cover the glass or mug. If you have large sheet of packing paper then you can pack two glasses in one sheet only. This trick works best in case of the same-size glasses. Also, it helps in saving your packing material.

7. Add a layer to the box: if you are not using a box with dividers then make sure to add a layer of packing paper or bubble wrap at the bottom of the box. Crumble the paper for better cushioning. After layering, keep the wrapped glasses inside the box and if there is any space left, you can fill it with extra packing paper. This will create a nice tight package and reduces the chance of damage during handling and travel.

8. Filling the box: Always remember to keep the heavy glasses at the bottom of the box and then place the light glasses on the top. This reduces the chances of getting the glasses shattered during the travel. If there are dividers then it becomes easy to stack the glasses and if there are no dividers then you can easily keep the wrapped glasses in rows.

9. Wrapping the wine glasses or stemware: You need to start packing the stemware by wrapping the stem first. Cut the sheet in half and use that part to wrap the stem of the glass. After that, use the remaining part to wrap the upper section. This makes sure that the most fragile is well protected. Keep this in mind that stemware should always be placed at the top inside the box. And, further they should be cushioned with packing paper.

10. Ensure cushioning at the top: After packing the glasses and stacking them inside in a particular order, make sure to add a layer of cushion at the top of the glasses too. Add a layer of crumpled packing paper or bubble wrap to ensure extra protection to the glasses. After this, seal the bottom and top of the box with a durable packing tape and you are all done. If you hire expert packers and movers in Chennai, make sure that they also follow all these steps.
